Wedding Rings
Does Size Really
Matter?
By Aisha Ahmed
The engagement ring getting
into the picture is really the
official beginning of the planning
process for a bride. “The ring”
emerges during proposal when
he utters those words that will
take relationship to a different
level.
fair and poor, with ideal being the
best but normally you can go for
a very good diamond. It really all
depends on your budget.
Color:
Carat:
But just before he proposes there
is a lot of work that involves
getting the right ring. I once had
a friend tell me the size of the
ring he buys for his girlfriend
has to make a statement. Yes, I
know almost every lady out there
wants that dream ring just like
the dream wedding dress but
before you start daydreaming let
me shed some more light into the
4c’s of a wedding ring.
This is very straight forward
because it is a straight forward
rule. A good diamond is colorless.
The more color the diamond has
the less valuable. The color of a
diamond is measured on a scale
from letter D to Z with D a
diamond without color and Z is
the deeply colored.
Clarity:
This refers to the size of the
diamond. 1 carat is equals 1/5
grams and is subdivided into 100
points. The higher the carat the
more valuable but the other 3C’s
can make big not equal to better. Example if a 2 carat is not cut
properly then the value can be
less.
The most important fact to know
is that big doesn’t mean valuable.
I am not saying that big rings
don’t have value but the value
really comes from other factors,
and these factors are the 4C’s.
Cut:
So do you still think it’s all about he size? The answer is yes and no because some big rings are very valuable.
This has to do with the amount
of flaws or blemishes in the
diamond. The clarity is the
indication of a diamonds purity.
A flawless diamond is one
that does not have any inclusions
and they are referred to
as perfect.
Just hearing the word cut makes it
look like it all depends on the way
it is shaped. No ladies, cut refers
to how many well proportioned
facets are in the stone. There are
two important words that relate
to cut. They are brilliance and
sparkle. An easy but not always
accurate way to know a good
cut is when it doesn’t flash in the
light.
The Cut of a diamond is graded
ideal, premium, very good, good,
